Planting Food 2012

So my youngest daughter and I are on a getting ready to plant kick and every box and small container in the house is currently filled with dirt and freshly planted seeds.  This was our Spring into Summer project and the best part is it took maybe 10 minutes every couple days to get where were are right now!  And where are we right now?  Well we’re out of soil and little containers but not seeds, lol.

Food Seeds Planted

April 5th: Detroit Dark Red Beets-Sprouted April 9th

April 5th: Oregano- Sprouted April 9th

April 5th: Chives- Sprouted April 11th

April 5th: Sweet Basil- Sprouted April 11th

April 6th: Nanets Carrots- Sprouted April 11th

April 6th: Danvers Carrots-Not yet sprouted :-)

April 6th: White Libson Bunching Onions- Sprouted April 11th

April 6th: Sugar Snap Peas- Sprouted April 9th

April 9th: Cherokee Purple Tomatoes- not yet sprouted

April 11th Top Crop Bush Green Beans- newly planted today

April 11th: Dark Red Kidney Beans- newly planted today

April 11th Royal Burgundy (Green) Beans- newly planted today

Some of these will be grown outside, some will be grown in containers, and we’re going to grow the tomatoes upside down.  We have another different bunch of seeds to plant yet including 2 onions, 2 squashes, corn, eggplant, watermelon radishes, turnips, etc but we have to wait for the pots to free up and more soil to be purchased so it looks like all those plus 3 other types of tomatoes for sauce will go in most likely on the 21st.

transfer photo to canvas…COOL!

I was futzing around today and as is wont to happen sometimes you read something on facebook that leads you to pinterest that leads you to a tutorial on someone elses site and that’s what happened to me and I hope that my camera battery is recharged because little Bella and I are about to make a canvas with a photo on it :-)

Here’s the tutorial at A Beautiful Mess

I only had craft glue though and I have a bubble jet printer :-/ it’s drying at the moment so we’ll see what happens…cause I think I went overboard with the glue, lol, so it’s going to take forever.

Sometimes Walmart is Okay

Yeah, I went there, but in my defense all the Food Lions have closed around here and I needed a piece of felt plus some groceries at the same time since I wasn’t driving my SIL’s car all over while mine’s in the shop :::sigh:::

Anyway I met some awesome folks there today back in the craft department!  It’s really nice to meet genuinely nice people when we’re out and about in our daily lives :-) So I reckon today I have to say thank you to Wally World.

Unfortunately Wally took me for 3 Bens but what can ya do?  A family’s got to eat, lol.

Ok folks I just cannot say enough about this site.  Bella LOVES it!  She was able to design her own avatar and everything. She does fun activities while learning and with the reward tickets she gets from doing activities she’s managed to learn about spending and make herself a virtual hamster world, lol. And even better she’s constantly singing songs like the uber jazzy “amazing letter A” and learning new words in the process.  So anyway you can get some sample lessons but lemme tell ya it’s a small price to pay every month to have kiddo get her head chocked full of fun learning. If you know a kiddo between 2-6 (cause they’ve got a full range of goodies) then I know they’re going to love this too.

The crafts of Skyrim (almost done)

So yeah, about that swap I’m doing over at Craftster…you know The Elder Scrolls Swap? It’s been a blast so far and this is the progress I’ve made.

Now mind you the rules were for like 3 points (over 3 hours, 3 small easy, etc, you can look up the full info at craftster if you’re really interested)

So fully completed and coming in at over 2541 minutes (cause I left word open for days...literally) is the cookbook I compiled that I'm calling The Food of Skyrim. The cabbage potato soup is frickin awesome! Dave ate like 3 bowls, lol. The venison we did as chops was also great!

Also fully complete are these nifty "hide" boots. Though these are made of fabric, faux fur for the trim and the soles are for indoors so I reckon they're more like a slipper boot?

Also complete I did a bit of paper crafting to make a little box the subject is obvious, lol.

Almost done is this scarf/muffler. Inspired by the first bit of storyline where they have Ulfric Stormcloak gagged, I made it to match the boots though and I'm going to put my swap partners favorite shout on there I think because you just can't silence a Dovahkiin (or a 4 year old for that matter) at any rate once the shout Storm Call is on there then it'll be done.

That’s all for now I don’t have photos of the other two item but I’ll post them when I’m do.

Made A Hat

So it is sign up period for Make Me A Hat (Round 3) over at Craftster and we’ve been chit chatting and this mini top hat crochet pattern  from Treasures For Tots site came up. I had to make one for my little Bella!  It took about a half hour to get it exactly how I wanted it.  I admit mine is a bit different and slouchy to boot (on purpose)  and it’s held on kiddos head with elastic since her hair is so thin but it’s the same premise, lol.

She really didn't want me to take that first photo and refused to smile :-)

But my little Bella is a ham so it wasn't long until I had her giggling in her new hat.

Uncommon Tastes of Skyrim – For The Real World

Oh yeah, I can finally play Skyrim, not that I can read any of the dratted text without putting the settings at widescreen and making all the graphics look funky but it’s the price I have to pay huh?

So I am doing a swap over at Craftster.org for The Elder Scrolls and my swap partner likes good food as much as I do so I thought to myself, “hey self, why not take all the recipes that we can make for health and stuff and expand on that Skyrim cookbook about Uncommon Tastes.”

Of course those recipes aren’t spot on and the one would be dangerous but I’m just going to put real ones in there and tweak those funky ones. I think I might make 2 so I have one for myself.

At any rate I thought it might be nice to put the recipes here for everyone though I don’t have the cash at the moment to get all the ingredients to make the dishes so there will be photos of these actual dishes cooked and added here to the site as I am able to make them.

We’re in luck that Chocolate Covered Rhetoric has already posted the “sunlight souffle” here!

Driving With Perimenopause

I noticed lately more frequent hot flashes, an anxiety attack here and there (go figure with a 4 year old that climbs everything) and other assorted yucks like not being able to get to sleep, and being a bit bummed out for the whole week of Aunties visit rather than the previous 1 or two days I enjoyed in my 20′s.

But the thing I’ve noticed the most is that I just have no patience with stupid frickin drivers doing 32 miles an hour in a 45, you know “those people” and the other the unsafe drivers that don’t even bother with a turn signal, the idiots texting instead of making sure they are actually in THEIR lane, the cop that is still sitting at the light right in front of you because he’s on his cell phone leaning half out his window chatting it up with someone like he’s got all the time in the world :-/ Yes they make me a bit peeved, but I take a deep breath and imagine how lovely it would be if the Dovahkiin would appear suddenly on top of my minivan and mistake those darn bad drivers for a dragon :::cackle::::

Wow did I just cackle?  Huh, ya see what I have to deal with?

Anyhoo so I have been researching for some nice healthy herbs and supplements of a good quality for that pesky menopausal crud, so I took a stroll over to iHerb which is an awesome site that I just can’t say enough good things about since they carry all the stuff I usually have to drive across town for but ship it to me free as long as I spend 20 bucks (which is usually what I spend when I restock on my sinus stuff, healthy toothpaste, and tea tree mouthwash anyway) thus letting me stay here away from the bad drivers of Jacksonville :-)

Yeah.  So I discovered GABA  after reading up more on perimenopause and the joys of hormones drifting and shifting more.  Joy. (please note the sarcasm) lol.

”GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) is a non-essential amino acid found mainly in the human brain and eyes. It is considered an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which means it regulates brain and nerve cell activity by inhibiting the number of neurons firing in the brain. GABA is referred to as the “brain’s natural calming agent”. By inhibiting over-stimulation of the brain, GABA may help promote relaxation and ease nervous tension. NOW (it’s the brand I’m going to try based on the reviews) provides only the naturally occurring L-form as found in food and in the body.”

Soooooooooo, I’m crossing my fingers.  I also picked up a new thing for Bella while I was there called Yummi Bears D3 since she’s in the middle of a growth spurt and while she’s getting enough calcium with as much cheese, yogurt, and milk she has been asking for…she isn’t getting as much sun as she usually does because it’s frickin cold and gets dark early so the vitamin D3 will help her properly absorb all that yummy calcium for those growing bones of hers!

Now I just have to wait for my order (2-8 days via FedEx) If you’re interested in some healthy stuff check out iHerb yourself if you use my links and you’ll get $5 off your first order. I think I’m going to get some of their coffee next, yummmm, well, maybe I’ll order some of their coffee substitute that is supposed to be yummy since I need to cut back on the caffeine a bit, lol.
